Ambassador Susan Schwab served as U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) from 2006-2009. She currently serves as a Professor of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, a strategic advisor to the law firm Mayer Brown, and Board Chair of the National Foreign Trade Council. As a member of the President's cabinet, public policy scholar and global strategic corporate executive, Schwab is considered a foremost expert on global trade relations. Her efforts as the USTR include work to dramatically increase free trade agreements, resolve trade disputes and enforce existing agreements. During her tenure as USTR, she launched the initial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations and engaged in the Doha Round talks at the WTO. She was also involved in negotiations with Russia, Ukraine and Vietnam during their efforts to join the organization.
