Anchor and Reporter ABC News and Bestselling Co-Author
Seriously injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq, Bob Woodruff is a throwback to the reporters of years ago who brought you the news no matter what the danger.
From reporting on the Afghanistan and Iraq wars to covering the on-going situation in the Middle East/North Africa, to observing inside North Korea the 2010 celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the Workers Party, to witnessing the final troops leaving Iraq from Camp Virginia in Kuwait and visiting the very border spot where he entered Iraq on March 20, 2003 embedded with the Marines, Woodruff conveys the most influential stories facing our world today. In January of 2006, while reporting on U.S. and Iraqi security forces, Woodruff was seriously injured by a roadside bomb that struck his vehicle near Taji, Iraq. In an instant, his life was altered forever. Sharing stories from his moving and inspirational best-selling memoir, In An Instant, which he co-authored with his wife Lee, Woodruff captivates audiences and leaves them with a new understanding of the fragility of life, the strength of family, the bravery of those who helped save his life and lessons on how to survive and overcome even the most tragic of circumstances. For his intrepid ability to get at the heart of a story, Woodruff has won numerous awards including three Emmys, a George Foster Peabody, an Alfred I. Dupont Award and the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism. After his miraculous recovery, the Woodruffs established the Bob Woodruff Foundation (ReMIND.org,), which assists wounded servicemen and their families with receiving the long-term care they need and helps them successfully reintegrate into their communities. They both speak to groups nationwide to keep the focus on our returning service members and their families. To date, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has given away more than $10 million to assisting organizations.

An International Perspective, A Voice At Home
Bob Woodruff began his journalism career as an international correspondent based in the Far East. This perspective on world and U.S. headlines has informed his reporting ever since: he was a leading voice overseas after the 9-11 attacks and understands the challenges faced throughout the Middle East. Additionally, his take on Iraq is informed not only by his experiences as a journalist and the troubles they face, the difficulty of getting stories and locating the truth amidst the chaos, but also by his having been the victim of terrorist violence while on assignment. Woodruff brings this highly nuanced international perspective to today’s world headlines, giving audiences a viewpoint on issues that may not be readily available to them, including a look at how the Biden Administration and Congress are viewed abroad and what it all means at home.
In An Instant
Normally one reporting the stories from the Middle East, Bob Woodruff suddenly and violently became the story: in January of 2006, while reporting on U.S. and Iraqi security forces, Woodruff was seriously injured by a roadside bomb that struck his vehicle near Taji, Iraq. The long and arduous journey back included numerous surgeries and months of rehabilitation. In this presentation, based on his best-selling memoir In An Instant, Woodruff recounts the events preceding and following this awful event, how it completely altered his perspective on career and family, how he coped and overcame these circumstances, and what audiences can learn to recover from shattering events in their own lives.

Our luncheon was a great success, thanks in part to Bob Woodruff’s presence and keynote address. His comments were very well-received and he did a terrific job of weaving his personal story and experiences to some of the issues that Plymouth’s veterans, and our other residents, face in re-building their lives after years of life on the streets. Thank you for all your support and assistance along the way.
