Scott Reich is a business leader, lawyer, and social entrepreneur who transforms personal adversity into scalable impact. As Vice President & Senior Counsel at American Express, he advises on innovation strategy and emerging products. Outside the boardroom, he’s best known as the founder of Believe in a Cure, a global nonprofit and biotech initiative accelerating treatment for FOXG1 syndrome, a rare and devastating neurological disorder that affects his son.
With no background in science, Reich built and now leads a team of researchers and biotech experts, raised millions in funding, and launched a novel drug program now advancing toward clinical trials. Under his leadership, Believe in a Cure has also created a website that offers a free mental health platform for rare disease caregivers and provides direct grants to families for specialized medical equipment.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Law, Reich began his career at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, later founding and selling a consumer startup before joining AmEx. He is the author of The Power of Citizenship: Why JFK Matters to a New Generation and lectures on presidential leadership at Penn. His podcast, “Curveball”, features conversations with leaders who have navigated disruption and emerged stronger, bringing forward lessons in adaptability, grit, and vision.
