Recently hired as the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, Matt Eberflus is a leader known for his disciplined approach and defensive expertise. His football career began as a four-year letterman and three-year starting linebacker at Toledo from 1988 to 1991. A two-time First Team All-MAC selection, he led the team in tackles both years and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. As a player, Eberflus was known for his focus, acumen, and intensity. Those same qualities have carried over to his coaching career and sit at the core of his success.
With 29 years of coaching experience, Eberflus built a reputation as a consistent, detail-oriented leader. Before rejoining the Cowboys in 2025, he served as head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2022 to 2024. Prior to that, he spent four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, where his units consistently ranked among the NFL’s best in takeaways and scoring defense. He also previously coached the Cowboys’ linebackers and passing game from 2011 to 2017 and worked in defensive roles with the Cleveland Browns, Missouri, and Toledo.
