Ron Rivera is an accomplished collegiate General Manager, NFL coach, former linebacker, motivational speaker, and broadcast personality. He currently serves as General Manager of Football at the University of California, Berkeley (Cal), and is on-air talent for NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, Sports USA Radio, and Westwood One Sports Radio. In 2026, he launched the football-focused podcast No Headsets with Whistle Sports, co-hosted with Tiffany Blackmon.
Most recently, the head coach of the Washington Commanders, Rivera was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma early in his tenure but continued coaching without missing a game and was declared cancer-free in 2021. Known for his resilience and leadership, he inspires teams to overcome challenges.
A two-time NFL Coach of the Year (2013, 2015), Rivera earned the nickname “Riverboat Ron” for his bold playcalling and was named an inaugural honoree of the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame in 2026. He has partnered with major brands including Pepsi, Gatorade, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft Surface, and USAA.

Ron Rivera, Former Head Coach of the Washington Commanders, shares the lessons he’s learned from over 40 years of playing and coaching in the NFL. As Superbowl Champion, winningest coach in Carolina Panthers’ history, and former head coach for the Commanders, Rivera knows what it takes to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of success. His insights include experiences of overcoming both personal and professional obstacles:
