As the beacon of responsible daily journalism, Jim Lehrer gives audiences the facts and context for today's events and helps them to understand the complex and often confusing avalanche of unfiltered news and information that besieges the public each day.
With a career that spans over five decades, Jim Lehrer is one of the most trusted voices in both print and broadcast journalism and has earned the respect, admiration and attention of an entire industry, the viewing public and the nation’s political process. In addition to anchoring and co-anchoring the PBS NewsHour, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and The MacNeil/Lehrer Report, Lehrer has moderated—in formats including podium, round-table and town hall—12 presidential and vice-presidential debates including the first Obama-Romney 2012 Presidential debate which focused on domestic policy. He has interviewed seven U.S. Presidents and received many of the most prestigious awards in journalism including two Emmys, a George Foster Peabody Broadcast Award and the National Humanities Medal. In addition to his best-selling book, Tension City: Inside the Presidential Debates, from Kennedy-Nixon to Obama-McCain (September, 2011), a lively and revealing book that pulls back the curtain on more than 40 years of televised political debate in America, Lehrer is the author of numerous fiction and non-fiction books, two memoirs and three plays. Lehrer moderates the NewsHour’s Friday political analysis roundtable segment providing his viewers the basic fact-based journalism he has become known for throughout the years. He sits down with audiences in a conversation-style format that allows an intimate and in-depth discussion on topics that range from a behind-the-scenes look at current events to the 21st -century information revolution. His favorite interaction is with the audience and he looks forward to taking their questions on the issues of importance to them.
