Meet James Rubin

A veteran foreign policy expert, James Rubin addresses some of the world’s most challenging diplomatic issues.

Bringing audiences to the frontline of current events, veteran foreign policy expert James P. Rubin offers a discerning perspective into our media-driven global culture and a unique lens through which to view U.S. and foreign politics. While serving under President Bill Clinton as assistant secretary of state and chief spokesman for the State Department, Rubin was the top policy advisor to Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright. After standing at the forefront of the nation’s most challenging diplomatic conflicts in Iraq, Russia, China and Kosovo—operating as a special negotiator during the war to secure the demobilization of the Kosovo Liberation Army—Rubin received the State Department’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. For nearly a decade, Rubin was an international news anchor and world affairs commentator for Sky news in London, host of the PBS series Wide Angle—a prime-time weekly international affairs program—and a visiting professor of international relations at the London School of Economics. Most recently, Rubin served as commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (2011-2013) and executive editor of The Bloomberg View (2011). Rubin will be a visiting scholar at Oxford University’s Rothermere American Institute (September 2013), is contributing editor for The New Republic and a frequent contributor to The New York Times, The Washington Post, The International Herald Tribune, The Financial Times, Newsweek and Foreign Affairs.
