Alastair Campbell made his name as a tough, no-nonsense media operator that earned him the title “the world’s best spin doctor,” and a job offer from Bill Clinton. But spin, he says, is doomed to fail unless underpinned by real principles of strategic communications. As the media world becomes more atomized, as old certainties die, how does a modern brand—human or organizational—communicate a message? How has technology changed the way that leaders communicate, and the led listen? And given how much change there has been in the last decade, how much more is to come, and what are the threats and opportunities presented? Campbell has ridden the waves of these changes by adhering to certain principles of strategic communications, which can be applied by any organization or individual who understands that in a world where the pressures are to be more tactical, strategy and strategic communications are the answer.

Jay Carney was at the center of every major issue or event facing the country and the Obama Administration since taking office in 2009. Today he shares with audiences his insight into the issues, policies and players on a multitude of subjects including the situation in the Middle East, healthcare and immigration reform, the economy and what it is like dealing with the White House Press Corps on a daily basis.

In his #1 best-selling business book, The Third Wave, Steve Case argues that we’re entering the Third Wave of the internet—a period when entrepreneurs will change the way we live our lives by leveraging new technologies to transform real world sectors like health, education, transportation, energy and food. The First Wave saw AOL and other companies lay the foundation for consumers to connect to the Internet. The Second Wave saw companies like Google and Facebook build on top of the Internet to create search and social networking capabilities, while apps like Snapchat and Instagram leveraged the smartphone revolution to become overnight successes. But, Case predicts, success in the forthcoming Third Wave will require a brand new set of skillsets for CEOs, entrepreneurs, policymakers and ordinary Americans. By looking back at his decision-making during some of the most consequential moments in business history in order to explain the current landscape, Case explains how attendees will need to rethink their relationships with customers, competitors and governments alike, and offers a forward-thinking roadmap for navigating in this new paradigm.

We live and work in the networked age--the social networking era is just getting started. Casnocha argues that “network literacy” is the new type of literacy that counts. He explains the hidden power of LinkedIn and other social media, but more importantly, provides a sophisticated perspective on how people networks shape everything we think and do—and how to leverage those networks to solve important business and career challenges.

He is not another generic “social media guru.” Casnocha spent two years at LinkedIn in the Office of the Chairman and was named one of the “25 most influential people in the world of internet and politics” by PoliticsOnline.

Powerful digital devices are now affordable "weapons of mass instruction" for all learners. Providing them to every student, as well as teachers who know how to harness their power for learning, has become the civil rights–indeed, the human rights–issue of our time, since education is the key to violence reduction, health care, employment, and community-building. The next generation of digital tools will include wearable devices that enable students to track and improve their own behaviors. Dr. Milton Chen will present examples of projects that enable students to learn more, faster than in previous generations, enabled by hardware, software, rich Internet resources, and networks of mentors. He will show examples of these innovative practices from Edutopia.org, the Lucas Foundation’s multimedia Web site and its archive of documentaries, available for free download and embedding.

Dr. Milton Chen, senior fellow and executive director emeritus at The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF), will present the rationale and examples for inquiry and project-based learning (PBL) in STEM. At a time when the U. S. is emphasizing STEM for college- and career-readiness, PBL now needs to become the curricular centerpiece for a national movement. GLEF's Edutopia.org website has documented many exemplary STEM projects during the past decade, using documentary film and supporting articles and interviews, from elementary grade students using GPS devices on farms to monitor endangered species to high school students designing schools of the future with architectural software.

PBL and STEM represent an important "edge of innovation" in our schools, as described in Chen's award-winning book, Education Nation. PBL curricula connect to other "edges of innovation," such as the role of technology is transforming when, where, and how students learn. New roles for teachers and students are being defined, as teachers form teaching teams with other experts and students take on more responsibility for their own learning. Dr. Chen will show examples of these practices from Edutopia.org. Its archive of documentaries is available for free download from iTunes U.

The media took a lot of heat for how they covered the 2016 election, and how they forecast a Hillary Clinton win for months, dismissing Donald Trump as a clown and potentially affecting the outcome. How does the media adjust to Trump’s Reality Show style of politics where facts are often disregarded and fake news is more believed than reported news stories?  Clift can talk personally about the changing media landscape. After spending most of her career at Newsweek magazine, she made the conversion to new media and writes for the Daily Beast web site.

With her signature sharp wit and humor, Joanna Coles shares anecdotes and expertise from a career spanning traditional media to the cutting-edge world of Snapchat, with topics including:

  • The future of digital communications: where content trends are heading for marketing, public relations, advertising, and branding
  • The importance of authentic communication: how to use social marketing initiatives to form personal relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • The media landscape's rapid transformation: why the intersection of new and old media channels is more important than ever

Are social media and dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge expanding our relationship possibilities, or hindering true connection? This is the question Joanna Coles poses in her new book, Love Rules: Getting the Relationship You Want. In this timely discussion, Coles explains:

  • How to treat your relationships in love, family, friendship, and work as seriously as you treat your resume, setting goals and benchmarks to achieve what you want
  • Why self-care is important and how to “be your own shrink” to address your emotional health in order to get the most out of your relationships
  • How to trust your gut and not waste “emotional calories” in situations that aren’t right—whether in the boardroom or the bedroom

With each new launch the hysteria around the ‘Johnny Cupcakes’ brand continues to conquer the globe. The reaction goes from 10 block queues as anxious fans await for the shop to open to Cupcake tattoos, yes, permanent ones.

In this awe-inducing presentation Johnny will educate you on how you too can create a wave of loyalty and obsession around your products, your business and within your teams through the power of social media & experiential branding.
